About 7 or 8 years ago, my brother Bryan made a momentous decision. He informed my family that he felt that he had been called by God to serve in a different, life-altering way, and that he was considering entering the seminary and beginning the journey to priesthood. To be honest, none of us was hugely shocked. It's always a surprise, but we all knew that Bryan was very devout, and that if any of us was to go into religious life, it would be Bryan.
After several years of seminary, this past April, Bryan was ordained as a transitional deacon. We all made it out to the ordination at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Boynton Beach, FL and then had a reception at my parents' house afterwards. The following morning, he gave his first homily at our home parish. I was lucky enough to be there and capture some of the highlights of this beautiful, tradition-filled weekend.
